Entrepreneurs who own majority of the shares in a company may be eligible to come to Canada under the Intracompany Transfer Work Permit Program. The Program requires that the applying company demonstrates that the company’s business, upon being granted access to the Canadian market, will contribute to Canada’s economy and create jobs for Canadians.

While not essential, having relevant work experience in the industry will provide trustworthiness of the applicant and the business plan.

Entrepreneurs who aim to start a business in Canada must also have the financial capacity to execute their business plan in liquid assets.

The immigration authorities would like to see the entrepreneur’s commitment to execute their business plan through documented proofs. They will assess the entrepreneur’s involvement in the daily operations to successfully run the business and an interview can also be required.

Finally, there must be no criminal record or cause of inadmissibility that will prevent the applicant from being permissible to enter Canada.
